Starter code

One Python file for each project

Each file solves its project's equation with methods short enough to read line by line, checks itself against an exact answer, and ends with your first experiments. The guide explains what each one should show you.

Where we are: every starter passes its own check, and we ran each one before publishing it. No student has used them yet, so tell your mentor what was unclear.

Run it in ten minutes

You need Python 3 and two free libraries. On Windows, type py instead of python3. Without a computer of your own, Google Colab works in a browser: upload a file, then run !python 01_chip_cooling.py in a cell.

  1. Unzip the download and open Terminal (Mac) or PowerShell (Windows) in that folder.
  2. Install the libraries: python3 -m pip install -r requirements.txt
  3. Check everything works: python3 check_all.py should end with “10 of 10 pass”.
  4. Run your project: python3 01_chip_cooling.py --show

The ten files

Each needs only numpy and matplotlib. The online lab, for members, runs the same projects on the research solver; say in your paper which one produced each number.
